Hello All,
**Apologies for cross-posting**
I am excited to share that I, on behalf of IGI Global Scientific Publishing, will be hosting a virtual open access publishing workshop titled,
"Understanding
the Full Potential of Open Access,” as a part of Athabasca University's Open Education Week events next week. I will be joined by our VP of Publishing Ethics & Research Integrity, Melissa Wagner, and our Director of Journal Development, Grace Long,
in talking about open access publishing and processes, as well as funding opportunities for authors and libraries.
If you are interested in joining the conversation, please feel free to register

Title: Understanding the Full Potential of Open Access
Date: Tuesday, March 3, 2026
Time: 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time/11 a.m. Mountain Standard Time
This virtual educational session will engage Athabasca University–affiliated researchers and the broader scholarly community who are interested in learning more about and becoming involved in open access publishing. The workshop will explore the various open
access models, Creative Commons licensing, how to identify predatory journals, submission and publication processes, and open access funding solutions, including Open Access Agreements that provide
no-cost open access publishing opportunities for researchers, and more.
This event will be led by:
-
Melissa Wagner, Vice President of Publishing Ethics & Research Integrity
-
Grace Long, Director of Journal Development
-
Savannah Pecknold, Communication Coordinator of Open Science Publishing
As interest in open access publishing continues to grow within the scholarly community, IGI Global Scientific Publishing is expanding its support for researchers and libraries through its
Flat-Fee (Unlimited) Open Access Publishing Agreement. This model enables libraries to provide uncapped, no-cost open access publishing for participating institution faculty and researchers whose work is accepted into one of nearly 200 highly indexed
journals across Business & Management, Science, Technology & Medicine (STM), and Education & Social Sciences. The agreement eliminates article processing charges (APCs) for authors while increasing the visibility, accessibility, and global impact of
their research.
“Open Access aims to reduce barriers to knowledge. And yet, becoming an Open Access author can present its own obstacles: complex publishing models, predatory journals, endless acronyms, and unexpected fees can make the process difficult to navigate. To
help you better understand these challenges and explore the full potential of Open Access, AU Library is pleased to welcome guest speakers from IGI Global Scientific Publishing,” said Dan Cockcroft, Open Educational Resources (OER) Librarian at Athabasca University.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Athabasca University to educate faculty and researchers on the benefits of open access publishing and evolving library-funded opportunities that minimize or eliminate the financial barriers associated with publishing open
access,” said Nick Newcomer, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
