Dawn, thanks for sharing this.

It’s such an honor to have SJSU pick up on the DefendResearch.org work as a basis for their conference.

In related programming, friends in Leeds! Consider joining the Scholarly Social folks for an evening of networking and discussion on academic freedom at the Everyman Theater.

Representing myself as a private citizen wearing my DefendResearch.org hat, I’ll be representing the DefendResearch.org work to fight censorship in science: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/scholarlysocial/1825354

I’ll be presenting remotely alongside a fantastic inperson panel of experts and free-speech advocates.

Our panel will be chaired by Vicky Williams, Chief Executive of Emerald Publishing, who will be joined by four speakers to provide a range of perspectives:

  *
Sara Rouhi, Co-author of the #DefendResearch declaration (virtual panelist)
  * Josh Sendall, Acting University Librarian & Keeper of the Brotherton Collection
  * Mustafa B. Ozturk, Programme Director and Researcher at Queen Mary University of London
  * Terri Teleen, Americas President at Emerald Publishing

Hope to “see” some folks there and at the SJSU conference.

Sara Rouhi on behalf of DefendResearch.org (and not my employer)

Join us for critical conversation, collaboration, and action. Topics include disappearing data, censorship, vanishing research funding, and the resilience of open access initiatives across borders. Researchers, librarians, publishers, and civic leaders are encouraged to participate, especially those working in politically repressive or underfunded environments. Sessions will not be recorded, so grab your seat at the table.

Together, we will build and strategize sustainable, inclusive responses to defend the integrity of scholarly communication.

If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Hackman, Health Sciences and Scholarly Communications Librarian, San José State University Library, at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
