  ok, if this is true, show me a script that will give me a list of
  all CrossRef DOIs added or modified yesterday, with their associated
  metadata, usable without being a CrossRef member. I don't think it
  can be done, but of course I could be wrong.

  That's othogonal to the question of openness. An API access does not
  make data open. In fact, APIs are often deployed for partial access
  to data.

  The idea that CrossRef and ORCID data is open is a widely-held myth.
